I was looking for something else and this turned up. It’s a collection of images from what I believe was the stone circle. These are probably from about 2000, with a 3 megapixel camera. Quite good for the time. I did happen upon this circle about 5 years earlier when I was just a hillwalker. I wandered right into it in the fog without realising what it was. I had no idea of any megaliths outside of Stonehenge at the time, so it was a bit of an eye opener. There were several knee high standing stones with more recumbents, and a curious holed stone. All very strange to me at the time, but it got me hooked. These images show what was left in 2000, with a broken holed stone and just the one upright.
I have been back several times since but with no sign of anything surviving? It was there, but like Brigadoon, it’s now gone.
Someone, somewhere out there must know who removed them. And why?
I've a feeling that they ended up as garden ornaments.
Bloomin' long way to go to get some small stones for a garden! Great to see these pics, we didn't find anything when I was looking, but it was towards the end of a longish walk and I was with some friends who didn't want to spend ages combing through reedy grass for something that probably wasn't where we were looking!
It's a mystery alright. We'll probably never know now, but they were there.
