As previous visitors have noted, parking on the A420 is very limited which makes it difficult to visit this wonderful long barrow. A much more pleasant way to access it is from the village of Biddestone just over a mile away. Park at Biddestone Village Hall – the car park is used by the hall, cricket club, allotment holders and dog walkers so I don’t think parking there is a problem. As you entered the car park from the road, there was a bridleway on the left. Follow that and it will take you to the barrow. About a third of the way along, there’s a farm compound plonked over the bridleway so you have to go around that on the right and find the bridleway again on the other side. Near the end, take one of the small bridges over Hardenhuish Brook to get to the gate into the field containing the barrow. The first two thirds of the walk is on shaded bridleway so it’s a nice route even on a hot day, and there’s the added advantage that you approach the barrow from the side with the chamber entrance.
