On a visit a couple of days ago, it really seemed that the capstone has in fact cracked into two and the smaller piece fallen off it’s upright causing the whole capstone to collapse inward. This would not have been recently, but many many years ago. But the texture of the faces on the stone on the ground, the matching surfaces and the way it could have looked when intact seemed very possible – and once we saw it we couldn’t unsee it.
