Good to read people who really know what they're talking about.... in an age where there are so many bloggers. I've changed my mind about 'restored' circles over the years; as long as those doing the restoring clearly know their stuff, a circle SHOULD be erect.
I broadly agree with you, but on a case by case basis. I tend to go to sites then read about them afterwards, because I'm interested in my intial reaction (and enjoy the later research). In the case of Strichen circle, I think that went well for me just to turn up because I was enraptured by its setting and not distracted by all the movements its gone through. Having said that, I probably would have explored (gone inside) Strichen House had I known more about its history. But there's always next time!
