That is interesting - in all my years never ventured up there
First time for me, bus dropped me at Banwell so I could walk the length of the ridge. Was very pleased that these two were no longer in forestry, so the views are excellent. I really liked this site, I reckon you would.
Mynydd Marchywel is on the list for some time.
Yeah, likewise Waen Glyn-nyd. But not here...
I made a bad choice after the Gelli-benuchel cairns, which involved bog and then a really horrible bit of dense forestry (retracing my steps would have been easier). By the time I got to Waen Glyn-nyd I was knackered and running out of time, so they eluded me...
It happens... that's a key consideration in a lot of Mid Wales, too... looks fine on the map, but often more tiring than climbing a munro. Height is irrelevant.
Definitely! A couple of weeks back I had the joy of traversing the Aran duckboards :)
Oh great - not the walkway, but that you got there before we're all too old. You have to see where the Dyfi's born to make sense of the Tarrens. Funnily enough, I was literally looking at those last 2015 Aran Fawddwy pics this morning.
Yeah, that's what I've been telling myself! I spent a lot of time looking at your pictures before hand, as I always do. I wasn't confident of doing the walk to be honest, my first proper big hills since catching Covid in November. But it turned out well, once the morning fog cleared. I took it very, very slowly and walked the ridge from Llanwychllyn to Pen-y-Brynfforchog before descending back to the road below Brithdir. It was a treat to not have to rush for once, I had 12 hours to walk about 15 miles! Really enjoyable hills, and actually the bog was mostly fine (the worst bit was on the lower part of the descent).
Also, buses are sadly getting worse - the brilliant early bus from Aberystwyth that allowed me to get me around Pumlumon last May has now been scrapped, so just as well I did it when I had the chance.
Oh right, so you carried on over Glasgwm and down to the summit of Bwlch Oerddrws... shame Glasgwm's cairn isn't ancient, but lovely top
Yes, when I got to the (very boggy) bwlch at the bottom of Glasgwm it was a choice of climb the mountain or face the bog. I chose the former and was glad I did. A lovely top as you say, the lake is stupidly pretty.
Well walked, terrific sites, nothing like a good bog :-)
Thanks db, hmm, each to their own!
Meaning, it's always worth it when you reach a site. These are well worth it :-)
