Yorkshire's 'Stonehenge of the North' gifted to the nationThree huge Neolithic monuments in Yorkshire which have been described as "the Stonehenge of the North" have been gifted to the nation. The Thornborough Henges complex, near Ripon, date back to around 3500BC to 2500BC and consist of three 656ft (200m) wide circular earthworks. Two construction firms have donated the henges site to Historic England. They will now be managed by English Heritage and will be opened free of charge to the public. | Very good news. Heard about this on the grapevine, but thought 'I'll believe it when I see it'. Recall being uncomfortable visiting the southern henge years back owing to the environs, so good on those companies for finally doing the right thing and setting some precedents for others. |

| Great news, so the rumours were true after all, some of the archaeologists in the North East working on a nearby wind power farm (same guys that found the souterrain near Whitehills) mentioned that colleagues at EH had good news :-) |
