The steep unrelenting uphill walk from the car parking area (fork in road at the bottom of the hill) took me slightly by surprise, although fortunately not too far.

Me too and I began to wonder if the effort had been worth it when on arrival I found a group of about 6/7 people performing various 'rituals' obliging me to demonstrate a level of patience I didn't think I possessed until they decided they'd done enough and left me to enjoy what is a truly splendid site in the solitude I prefer.
