I'm sure a lot of us looking at this will be adding it to their 'to do' list. Fabulous, indeed.
You're not wrong. I'd have to treat it as a hill walk rather than 'site' since it's quite a way from the road.
Yes, I was looking at the 'way in' on google maps, stunning even from a chair in the study
It's a nice walk. No access problems (maybe deer stalking in Autumn months). Fishing is the big thing round here. Easy track from Garvault to the loch. After that it's rough ground. Sticking to the shoreline round the lochs helped. Nothing too tricky. Worth visiting Ben Griam Mor as well if time permits. I really liked the hillfort. Lots going on here. I wondered if it was more of a meeting place for various groups of people instead of a place lived in all year round. Maybe bringing animals to trade. If it's Iron Age, am I right in thinking people were riding horses then? It would have made the trip for them a lot easier. If anyone gets a chance to visit, I'd love to read your thoughts about the complex.
The aerial photography is a lot clearer on either OSmaps or Canmore compared to google maps. You can really see the walls.
