It's very lovely and lots to see. The church below this fort/cairn has an amazing collection of carved early medieval crosses, bit out of TMA remit but well worth a visit.
If you are at Cairnholy 1 in the afternoon on a sunny day there comes a time when the shadow tips of the facade stones all align. That alignment is N/S and it points to Maughold Head?
You may be lucky enough to catch Cairnholy Joe there. He'll give you a tour of the site that's an experience in itself, otherwise, the effect can be seen when the sun is about due West. Stand somewhere by the gate, (the northern one and not the one by the carpark) that goes to the lane and on to Cairnholy 2 and look south from there.
I'm liking this place, lovely!

This is visible from Cairnholy on a precise True North/South bearing.
View from Cairnholy. Maughold Head stands out nicely.

Wow, thanks both, that's quite something.

I'd like to see that cerrig. A trip back to either Isle of Man or Dumfries and Galloway is long overdue. The stones are so good.
