Me and my wee family ate our lunch on that rugged outcrop looking out at Mynydd Carngwch with our sangwidges last September. There's quite a lot of carving on the outcrop, none of it seemed very old, but at least they weren't more drillholes! I loved this hillfort, the best I've ever been in anywhere. It really is more of a hill city. Unbelievable place. Nowhere like it. And don't be put off by the staggering views... it really is very straightforward to walk to.
Oh no! That is waaaay too steep! The slope looks almost vertical from the cairn! The road North to Caernafon is miles below! Go further round the road towards Llithfaen (turn off at Llanaelhaearn) and stop the car or get off the bus around here.
Through the little gate and up the signposted footpath on the right of the road in the link. It is a steep stretch for ten minutes then it is a lovely level walk across the moor till you clamber up and through the South West Gate into The Best Hillfort In The World. Very recommended.
That's the way I came back and the way I went up the two times before, but it was so long ago I hadn't reckoned on there being two laybys with footpaths on them, I just stopped at the first one I saw.
Furiously thinking of some exotic place I can pass off as a hill fort now, Sacsayhuaman?

Not that straightforward, I took the wrong path up, which then lost me and I ended up climbing up from below the cairn, not recommended.
