The cairn itself has been badly damaged, leaving just the southern arc, but the cist is superb. Looking towards Kilmar Tor. The dismounted cover stone lies to the right.

Looks a good one. I like the capstone still there as well. Wish I had visited here. Did Kilmar Tor from the south but didn't have time/energy to go on. Wonderful area for walking. You're getting about a bit.
Yes, good place, very quiet. I walked from Berriowbridge to the east as it was the nearest bus stop, from here over Kilmar, criss-crossed the hills and finally got to the Hurlers, then walked south towards St Cleer to get a different bus back to Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is a public transport challenge but I'm amply rewarded for the long walks in.
Sounds a nice walk. I enjoyed Kilmar Tor very much. Fun top.
I do admire how you get to some of these places. We've been leaving the car behind as much as we can the last few years. It's freeing not having to loop back to it on every walk. Keswick last year was brilliant for that, great public transport. Aberdeenshire's not easy. You should try the Small Isles, if you haven't already. No need for a car. Train to Mallaig then a ferry across. The ferries are very cheap too, I think it was about £7 to Eigg.
It does have the advantage of being able to plan linear rather than circular walks, as long as there's transport stops at each end. Northern Scotland is difficult to access as there's so much of the country without settlements or train lines.
But I will investigate the possibility of reaching that western point! I very much want to visit the islands, hopefully one day it will happen, maybe once we've got round the Welsh coast :) Eigg looks wonderful in your recent stuff.
Don't know if this would be any use to you for a future trip.

I've always fancied a go on the bus across to Durness. Nice scenery and it stops/picks up anywhere on the route from Lairg.
Oh, that looks really useful, thanks. Went to Lairg last time we were up, really like it round there. Loads to see around Durness too.
Beautiful place! Nice one!
