Abbey Craig (Hillfort) by GLADMAN Unfortunately Abbey Craig's monument always - for me - conjures up tragi-comic visions of Mel Gibson ... hardly a man with the, er, most balanced of world views.

Nevertheless the sight of the fort from Dumyat's Bronze Age cairn is pretty special... with surely yet another rising beyond, more famously crowned by Stirling Castle.

The actor and film director Mr Gibson's world views are perfectly fine compared to some who prefer "Peace through War" and "Bombing Civilians For Peace". His support for the Clanranald Trust and Dun Carron is much appreciated here in Scotland. Lang may his lum reek. Howburn Digger Posted by Howburn Digger

You really do seem to want to constantly take issue with me, don't you? Whatever... since I can't respect the views of anyone who admires a man such as Mel Gibson - the subject of well-documented allegations of racist, homophobic, antisemitic and misogynist misdemeanours.

In my opinion, 'braveheart' is propagandist nonsense aimed at those with no grasp of history. Mr Gibson's decision to cast himself as Wallace (apparently estimated to have been in the region of 6ft 5in/6ft 7in height?) speaks volumes. Classic little big man syndrome. Scotland deserves much, much better.
