Picture this. Visitors to the Vatican arrive in St Peter’s Square and are shepherded into a modern reception centre cleverly hidden under Bernini’s colonnades. After looking at a display on Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes, they are filtered into a full-scale replica, with a ceiling that is a giant photograph of the famous artwork.

Come on... let visitors near the real thing and in no time some numpty would be out with their Sharpie Marker drawing a c*ck and b*lls on those walls in no time. Then taking a selfie and posting it on Twitter.
Most visitors to Dunadd think they are seeing the real footprint, ogham script and boar carving. The originals have been covered over by facsimiles moulded in a sort of resin/ artificial stone for 38 years. Few visitors notice. Nobody is out to fool anybody... just takes one idiot tourist with a hammer and chisel fancying a new ornament for their rockery...
Some moron travelled all the way from Liverpool to Orkney and on to Skara Brae to deface it. No-one gets to actually walk around Skara Brae now.
