Another hilarious cracker , well worth reading . I've lost count of the number of people who have e-mailed me about this ,all in stitches .

Big patches of weeds equals stones. Stands to reason dunnit, you don't need something as old fashioned as evidence. Wanting stones for a stone avenue is just so last century and proof that those left wing maniacs at the bbc are warping your mind.

The problem with the nut jobs is the realisation that highlighting the nonsense only gives them publicity , the very thing they thrive on , and there is also the thornier problem of whether silence and sympathy might be more appropriate ,( You have to have some concern for someone who nicks the name of a character from a Dan brown story and describes himself as Britain’s ‘Indiana Jones’ .)

Having said that some do provide the biggest laughs in archaeology and a read through some of the other “ideas” is highly recommended .

They are very rich seams and there can be multiple outrageous gems in each essay ,there is so much you never where to start .In this case it's not just the weeds equals stones nonsense but there is the wonderful Long Barrows were “ giant direction finders “ just like the “70 foot concrete arrows to be built every 10 miles or so along an established airmail route “ of the 1920 ‘s US . to help the “ships in the sky “find their way . If that’s not enough Silbury had a beacon to make doubly sure ,probably necessary when you consider the confusion if you followed the direction of East Kennet Long Barrow ( conveniently omitted from the various diagrams ) , which despite being less than a mile from West Kennet and overlooking the same river which hadn’t changed direction in that mile , differs in direction by approx 50 degrees .

I think the long barrows as pointers for Mariners is my favourite bit.

I'm surprised that these bad boys aren't involved.
