The counterscarp appeared to become proportionally less defined in relation to the angle of the hinterland.

Very much so. Looks as though the NT are letting Nature do what she wants. Does make for a great vibe, even if I couldn't walk most of the bank.
Been to some good wooded Herefordshire ones recently, which I think you'd like (and Carl).
