Thanks, It is a terrific stone, and i'm non plussed as to why it's taken me so long to come across it. Luke, the lad on the right hasn't been out of England before and obviously it was his first standing stone, I'm sure its significance was entirely lost to him, but he did have a good day out i'm sure.
I hope you did the requisite joke about him requiring his passport.
I'm trying to think what my first stone / prehistoric site might have been. Whatever it was (bar stonehenge) it probably didn't immediately loom large in my mind, maybe as a child you're immersed in experience and don't consciously register it in the same way. But it surely sows a little seed. So who knows, you've given his imagination something for the future. And being out in the sun exploring foreign countryside is always a good thing. For impressionable young minds and committed prehistory obsessives alike.
Maiden castle (my one) was my first ancient place whilst hiking with scouts when I was twelve-ish.
The fort went by unremarked upon by everyone, but the walk itself did indeed sew a seed that would lead me back there again, even if it took twenty years to go back.
It's always good to take a young mind somewhere out of his everyday, until they start lobbing cairn material over the side of the mountain, thankfully Luke was not this boy. The force is strong with this one.
This is a bit good, well done for getting there so soon!
It's not very far away, I would have been there sooner if I'd known where it was. It is good though.
Excellent. It's very sturdy isn't it. And a lovely colour. The youths are hilariously nonchalant, good for them.
