I see it was a few years ago but did you see the strange little cave near by?, the place stays in my head because there was a car dumped in a place that i couldn't even imagine how they got it there, i thought this ring cairn made up for the slightly disappointing stone circle though.

I liked the ring cairn a lot, I'm trying to catch up on old fieldnotes, and this walk was a confusion of re-arranged fences after this. Didn't see a cave though.

Yes i ended up at a cave [it's on the OS25000 map] and it somehow felt connected to the sites on the hills [maybe the builders felt this as well], if we could see under the hills the cracks from the cave could link the sites under the ground, a bit like the cup marked rocks over cavens from the stump cross cave system near appletreewick in yorkshire.

Yes, I see the cave you mean, which presumably was known to the monument builders.

I can't see why not, it's not a mine or quarry, it's not big but it stayed in my head as i fought going to it but it pulled me in very strongly, as you both know in the ancient days each set of hills would have had there own personnel mythologies and stories bringing everywhere to life, i think this little cave would have had a big part in this landscapes story, maybe even a local entrance to the underworld.
