I thought I recognised Tinto in the background! These cairns are practically in my back yard, yet I havent been up for, oh... too many years. The last time I was up I combined the roman camps at Slipperfield, these cairns (plus a few more) and an uninvited prowl round Ian Hamilton Finlay's Little Sparta.
Yup. There are many Tinto vantage points across South Lanarkshire and Central Scotland (you can look onto Tinto from away up in Fife) and many possible alignments onto Tinto.
I thought I'd post this link in case anyone is interested in what you can see from Tinto. I love this site. It reckons you should be able to see Tinto from Lochnagar (96 miles away)!!
That is a great wee resource there thanks thelonius. When you enlarge the images you cannot scroll across them (well on my steam powered dual-boot Dell with W7 and XP I couldn't) but I could copy the panorama image, drop it into Paint and save it from there.
I've seen Tinto from the summits of Goatfell, Ben Lomond and the Cobbler (Ben Arthur) for sure. Ben Ledi I thought it was but couldn't decide. There are lots of roads in Central and Southern Scotland where Tinto's profile makes a weird, unexpected appearance.

I can see a return jaunt soon.
That's Tinto? Well I never.
