But the Conservators say the work is necessary to preserve Midsummer Hill’s Iron Age fort and enhance the wildlife.

If you're interested in such issues the link is well worth reading. As a complete outsider, it reads that the Malvern Conservators need a number of lessons in public relations and land management.
Notices in the area explaining what's happening say "Don't approach the contractors".......Are they unsafe then?
It looks like the work has been contracted out to very "heavy-handed" people and at the wrong time of year.
.............All so unnecessary if folks really CARED
The area where the felling is being done is a beautiful mature woodland and the mess they're making is truly shocking. Their excuse is that it's supposed to be protecting the ramparts of the fort from tree-root damage, which doesn't explain why they're savaging an entire area of woodland or ripping up this 2,400-year-old treasure with tractor tyres. Awful, heartbreaking mess.
