That's interesting. Never been up there since it's marked with 'non-antiquarian' typeface on the map.... but certainly looks the real deal. For reference what route did you take?

I walked up from Dolwyddelan (near the station) following a track which ran up the side of Afon Bwlch Y Groes, it goes practically all the way to the summit of Y Ro wen. I then carried on round to Moel Penamnen and down into the Cwm.

Incidentally, there is an archaelogical dig going on down in Cwm Penamnen on the old houses there, one of which my 3x Gt Grandparents and 2x Gt Grandfather lived in.

It looked genuine enough, and definitely the sort of location for a burial cairn, with terrific views in all directions.

Yeah, I went up Moel Penamnen several years back, but not Y Ro Wen.... looks like this will have to go on the list. Cheers

that was a late post from last year, I spent June until the begining of November living in North Wales and making the most of it ! before moving over here to West Cork... where there's no end of mountains and stones to explore !
