Yes, it's a nice, lonely, spot.
It's a prominent looking cairn and as they're not exactly rare in the area I cant see why its not included on the map.
Perhaps they experienced a mystical white out and walked past it unknowingly.
Well, they could have visited in a non-mystical white out as well, hardly a rarity either up there! Thank goodness for Coflein though, at least they have their eyes open.
So that is it, then? The Mam was right. That sheep shelter's a bit of a bastard, though .... saw it in the near distance as we crossed from east to west edge back in April and then, er, sort of lost 3 or 4 hours hanging out around the Wiral cairn until lightning drove us off.
As you saw, the trouble with the Offa's Dyke path here is the ridge is so wide you have to stick to the sheep paths on either edge to get any views, or else lose the whole vibe... which is everything to me. Really can't see the point expending all the effort to climb the ridge and then walk down the centre. The cairns really don't seem so important with all that natural beauty.
It's only because Coflein mentioned the "parasitic sheep shelter" that I first saw it - I was beginning to wonder if I'd already passed it, the distances along that ridge are deceptively far. I was doing a recon really, for when we get this far on Offa's Dyke (we've got as far as Knighton now) - this looked a mighty long section to do in a day, but now I've seen how it's been practically paved over the bogs I'm reassured. We can divert off for views, but the path will make the distance manageable. I also skipped the detour to Loxidge Tump cairn, cos I was worried about missing the bus.
