A little beyond... and to the left of the ‘stone row’ (when approaching uphill)... lies this large, apparently shaped slab.... looking very much like a capstone. There is a cavity beneath.

I loved this. My imaginary companions spread a table cloth over it and the imaginary butler wound up the gramophone. Certainly big enough for a table. Couldn't in all honesty see anything to indicate anything other than naturally placed, but as you say a lovely slab of stone.
Did you see the big white erratic down the slope (SE) from the circle?
I seem to be your antithesis, SC. But guess that's what TMA is all about. Differing opinions for people to balance and come to their own conclusions.
I'm not sure about antithesis, we both love the Welsh upland sites. I just didn't see anything to show that this was artificially placed, but I'm not discounting the possibility. There's another slab (not as big) across the valley near the cairn to the east of the river, and quite a lot of other big stones lying about the slopes below the circle.
