Professional journal article by Derek Alexander published in the Proc. Soc. Antiq. Scotland, regarding the finds at Spurryhillock. Some of the lithics recovered suggest the site was a factory for mesolithic blade manufacturing. Charcoal recovered has included some specimens traced to oak (quercus).

Okay so it doesn’t show the barrows, but David Hockney’s painting of Garrowby Hill gives a flavour of the landscape where they were constructed.

It is critical that we collect as many signatures as possible before the Sixth World Archaeological Congress (WAC-6), to be held in Dublin, beginning 29 June 2008, and the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in Quebec, Canada, beginning 2 July 2008. WAC-6 will be holding a round table discussion about the ethics of the M3 and Tara.

The Minister for the Environment, John, Gormley, has proposed making Tara a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but with the M3 passing though the middle of it. We support the nomination to UNESCO, but want them to insist that the M3 is rerouted first.

“The Breiddin Hillfort: A later prehistoric settlement in the Welsh Marches” – a CBA Research Report by C R Musson with W J Britnell and A G Smith, from 1991.
The umpteen finds are meticulously recorded and illustrated – and there are some unusual wooden ones which were preserved in a marshy area in the centre of the fort.

Previously unrecorded Bronze Age (?) roundhouse on the flank of Carningli, discovered Spring 2008. Other traces in the immediate vicinity suggest it was the centre of a farmstead, with storage huts, paddocks, trackways etc associated.
