I think we can assume they have the local job vacancies in their bag (and lets hope they use the work phone to apply!) They're not stupid people.
I've been temping since I f*cked up my nurse training - I currently work with an unemployed airline pilot, a couple of very well qualified IT guys, someone who ran a successful business for some time, etc, etc. Pretty much everyone here is in their 30's and have degrees and postgrad qualifications.
It can happen to anyone.
