Morgan Tsvangirai

It's a good point, Lupus.

The appalling situation in Zimbabwe has interested me for years now so I guess it's in my political bloodstream. But the lack of media coverage of the human tragedy going on down there means that it hasn't got onto people's radars enough for them to truly get what happening.

In case people reading this don't know, Robert Mugabe, the dictator of Zimbabwe (a land of great plenty and potential in southern Africa) is systematically SCREWING his country over in a reign of terror. The population is starving and deprived of basic human rights. Inflation is running at something like a zillion percent. Torture and disappearances happen everyday. Rape is used systematically as an instrument of oppression against women. AIDS is rife and there ain't no medical care. No journalists or charity workers are allowed in.

In short, it's about as bad as it could be. And the world stands by and does... nothing :-(

Some of my friends in Marlborough were from Zim, they were a white family who fled the country, and miss it dearly...awful situation and very despairing indeed.

Can you give us a summary of what Morgan Tsvangirai stands for?

The stuff in the press just have him as 'opposed to Mugabe'.

Free-marketeer? socialist? militarist? Farmer?
