It wasn't that long ago, and for some still today, that your political preferences were your own business and not something you openly discussed. It was respected and rightly so, but today if you openly say what party you support you are insulted by those that have different views and question your sanity. They are called obsessives and consider you to be some sort of deranged idiot for not agreeing with them. We are seeing that on this thread at the moment. Endless posts, endless questions, but with just a token interest in other peoples views if they don't agree with them.
Neither side is for turning yet they still ramble on with the same diatribe day after day. They act like they speak for everyone and latch onto the slightest whiff of support in the daily rags. It makes their day even though the greater amount of it is just lies and fake news. The sad thing is that for all their apparent knowledge, they suck it all up and back each other up.

I voted to leave the EU and my reasons stay with me, not for all asunder. It is my business and I will not be brow-beaten on a forum I otherwise enjoy by failed amateur politicians who in the very first instance didn't have the decency to congratulate the majority who voted out and still won't. They didn't accept the result of the democratic vote and have gone out of their way to applaud all the obstacles put in our PM's way. But they won't win because Theresa May leaves them for dead when it comes to intelligence. We are coming out of Europe no matter what your point of view or beliefs. Instead of whinging and whining like you have been doing since the vote went against you, why don't you wise up and support your country and help see it through this difficult but expected phase.

Now that IS all I have to say but feel free to continue with your cheap remarks about me like Swift did this morning if it makes you feel better knowing that I won't come back at you. You know, the cowards way!

No-one asked you who you voted for, you volunteered that information, just as you did the last time. I have never asked anyone how they voted on anything. But if you choose to come on a public forum - three times in your case, the last GE, the EU ref and now - and tell everyone how you are voting, it's already in the public domain. I don't know why you choose to come and everyone who you vote for, but as this a discussion forum I assume it's for a discussion. I am interested in politics. I would like to understand what motivates people to vote the way they do. I'm not seeking to change their view but I would like to understand.

I don't think I've actually talked about Brexit on this thread - its about the GE as far as I'm concerned. Its a given that Brexit was the Theresa May's reason for calling one. As you said Sanctuary, how each individual votes is between them and the ballot box but as this is a discussion forum it is inevitable opposing views will be aired. No one is brow-beating anyone but there does seems to be a lot of 'taking the moral high ground' and superciliousness from certain quarters. Moving on - lets. I will be supporting Labour (who are not unanimously opposed to Brexit) because I believe in Socialism - looking after everyone in our society rather than the 'survival of the fittest' Thatcher's Conservatism.

John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, (a much maligned but very able politician) commenting on the Government’s refusal to set out their State Pension age plans, said:
“Today the Government have refused to set out their plans for the State Pension age before the election, despite the legal requirement to report to Parliament before the 7th May.
“It comes on the back of the Prime Minister’s continued refusal to commit to the State Pension triple-lock.
“This is yet more worrying news for pensioners already hit by a squeeze to their living standards. Labour is calling for clarity from the Tories on their plans for the future of the State Pension age.
“Pensioners, and working people, cannot afford not to know the future of the State Pension age.
“This is more evidence that this election is a choice between a Tory party that fails working people and a Labour Party that will stand up for working people and deliver a better, fairer Britain.”
Does anyone now in their thirties/forties/fifties really want to have to work until they are seventy - it may be fine for the fortunate minority in creative occupations to carry on but for the majority who work in industry, offices, hospitals etc., burn-out takes place at a much younger age. Workers deserve their retirement with a decent income to go with it.
