Yeah looks like Harwood was only there to monitor radio calls and look after the van as it says here in The Guardian from the 19th

which then goes on to make it look like he was totally the wrong person to be in the force. (Just thinking that over here the Garda are supposed to be 'guardians of the peace' which is what the name for the irish police force translates as, not sure if the English (police force name) semantically equates)
But anyway the rest of that article makes him sound seriously paranoid, especially coupled with what I read in yesterday's Guardian about the hotheadedness of his temper. Can't find taht particular artickle, hate trying to navigate the Gurdian site. There was this outline of previous cases against him from the 19th too

but what i read in the thing from yesterday was going on about how fast he would see red. I think it was an incident where he started choking a driver. Also mentioned him abusing police surveillance technology or files to look up who the owner of a car that had had trouble with his wife was.

Sorry, that may all be information other people are already aware of . I hadn't previously heard that much.
Just brings up the question who watches the watchmen (or whatever policing force) again doesn't it?

& I'm reminded of the suggestion earlier this year of the introduction of private police forces to the UK. In which case there would probably be even less structure of control of their behaviour and accountability thereon.
