I was there from October 1991 'til February 1997. Moved up there as (now ex) bloke's parents bought a small house to retire to (15 church terrace), and it was free to us. I couldn't get work at first but got a temp job down the Haughs (strimming, grass cutting etc) and when it ended one of the geezers from the council asked me if I wanted to work street sweeping. Good money,peace and quiet and I go to take my dog to work!!
Beautiful part of the world and I miss it like hell.
Ended up back in Lancashire.
I trust that the standard of street cleanliness is still high.
