I've no idea about that escalator incident, but they've definitely had drug sniffer dogs at Leeds and Bradford Interchange stations in recent months.

They put up a poster how it 'keeps the railway safe' so they want people to co-operate. Except that if someone's done nothing on their journey to cause anyone to even notice them and they only get nicked thanks to a sniffer dog at the end of a journey, it's not really keeping the railway safe is it? The place is safe enough already.

But making people scared of crime is no bad thing, keeps the police in a job. And given the enormous scale of illicit drug use, go anywhere where there's a lot of people and you'll get some nice easy arrests to bump up your stats.

Shame they pick railway stations though. Why not police locker rooms?

Or the city banks! Or the Houses of Parliament!

There was a phase of sniffer dogs (what a silly phrase that is) lurking at Manchester Piccadilly for a bit as well. They seem to have buggered off though. Gone a'sniffin elsewhere one presumes.
