I wasn't just comparing the place to any U.S scenario, or even alluding to the threat posed by Hamas.

No deal, no trust, no desire for either. Not unique of course, but something tells me that the Israeli govt thrives upon the trappings of 'isolationism'.

Again, hardly unique.

Well, part of the reason why there is no Palestinian state and no peace is because there are just as many assholes in the ranks of the intifadah (who thrive upon continued warfare) as there are in the Israeli right wing.

It's not unlike Northern Ireland, up until recently, anyway. Resistance movements get co-opted, then overtaken, by for lack of a better term, by organized crime elements. They can only keep their power if the war goes on. And so they do their best to keep hostility alive.

Just look at Hamas RIGHT NOW. They're still firing rockets into Israel, even though they know it'll probably mean more suffering for innocents that they supposedly are trying to liberate. They don't give a fuck. They aren't interested in peace, because it means their petty reign will crumble. They don't know how to run a peacetime economy so they keep the war going.

What's Israel supposed to do with that? Hamas WANTS Israel to keep being tyrannical because it serves Hamas!!!!
