I ain't disagreeing with either of you. I don't see why what I am saying is clashing in any way with what you are. All I am saying is ain't it possible that a government can use the 'device of the threat of terror' to keep a nation pinned to a certain way of seeing itself and the world in genreal. Obviously that would never happen, would it?

The difference here is that the USA's perception of threat is based largely on government-encouraged hysteria, and the threat in Israel is based on daily reality. They're a tiny country surrounded by people that make no bones about their intention to slaughter Israelis.
Israel doesn't have to hype the threat of terrorism like the right wing in America does, because they've been living in the thick of it for years.
