I'm no fan of dogs, but I am less of a fan of the rather sickly means by which some of these poor critters are born to the world.

*The uncompromising demands, which the Kennel Club refused to meet, came after the furore over the documentary Pedigree Dogs Exposed on BBC One in the summer. This featured a prize-winning Cavalier King Charles spaniel with syringomyelia, a condition that occurs when a dog’s skull is too small for its brain. It also showed boxers with epilepsy, pugs with breathing problems and bulldogs unable to mate or give natural birth*

Hoo-fucking'rah for the kennnel club!

Massachusetts finally said no to dog racing in the last election.

'bout time.

There's a line in 'Family Guy' where Brian the dog admonishes a joke about Greyhound Racing & refers to it as 'our holocaust'. Comedy is funniest when it's got some truth behind it.

I really have no damn use for 'pedigree' anything. It leads to inbred royalty and grotesquely deformed animals... and it feeds a weird compulsion in some humans to mold and dress up and parade animals around and turn them into little dolls, or something.

I like dogs, tho they require a great deal of attention if they are going to be good pets, and I also think they're best off in the country where they can run around free. I've never owned one.

I prefer good natured breeds of a medium to large size... small dogs usually annoy me. I want to punt them out the nearest window, usually.

Yes, I'm pleased with stance. I am constantly amazed how, despite being told to the contrary (common sense & sheer humanity being an ingredient) that the 'supertanker' of edifices that just carry on take so long to turn around. The Kennel Club being the equivalent of the Eugenics movement for doggies. If I was a dog I'd like to keep my tail.

I am a dog owner, and I am very glad the BBC gave the Kennel Club the ultimatum.

Our dog is a Springer Spaniel. She was the runt of the litter and we are proud of her. She has a normal long tail which has never caused her any problems. I cannot abide tail docking,or any breed manipulation. Just to create an image of perfection designated by a few pompus asses.

We don't take her to dog shows, do not work her. She is what dogs should be for and thats companionship.

I also destest the dressing up crap as well.

I can well understand your frustration with dogs, from the description of the person in your street. Potential dog owners should me made to go on a dog health and safety course. Not having a dog if they don't pass. Yes I know there is still the possiblity of them being bad after, but hopeful it would stop some.

These elitest who run the Kennel Club should come into account as well to stop the suffering not just being banned from the BBC televisation.

Well done the Beeb!

Good for Auntie Beeb. And apart from the illness inflicted on these poor pooches in the name of pure-breeding (!) have you seen just how ugly some of these things are?! Bull dogs with snotty faces so flat they're practically concave? I'm surprised these slobbering things don't spend a lot of the day staring out their own arseholes!

And another thing; isn't it weird that people treat animals as some breeding exercise, emphasising the purity of the breed etc, but then human beings get all excited if they can say "Well, Actually I'm part Irish, Scottish, German, Lithuanian, Somalian, Cherokee, Aardvark and Hamster on my Mother's side"?

Tch!
