I got given a paper today by an old street vending acquaintance of mine. he said it had an interesting story in. because I got stuck watching his stall earlier I'm only just getting to read it and it's a total nightmare.

I'd heard that situations on the street where people were out protesting were harsh enough but this was an attack on a quiet/sleeping dorm billet.

I haven't got to the end of the article yet cos I wanted to see if anybody had passed it on to here.
Stevo

Shit, Stevo. I feel like I want to go and kick the shit out of something after reading that.

Fucking bastards.

That's a truly disturbing tale... I'm shocked and appalled. Nobody's that surprised to hear of this kind of sanctioned, organized brutality in some parts of the world, but in Italy in the 21st century? And all the il Duce worship. Fuck!
Obviously, certain elements in the Italian power structure never underwent the kind of atonement process the Germans did for their fascist ways back in WW2. Bastards.

The details in that are utterly horrific, but equally unsurprising. They're police, it's what they do.

We like to think that 'our' police are somehow much better than that, that peaceful people would never be batoned down and beaten for no reason. But it happens all the time. Even something reported as peaceful like last year's Climate Camp at Heathrow had people batoned over the head and run down by horses.

The Genoa thing was covered by Indymedia at the time, as well as here

Once again, I'm reminded that I hate the police

Well anyways here's some better news:

Funny Mexico is just learning but then Mexico has a higher crime rate...
