They made their money in the early days of deregulated buses by coming into town, running loads of cheap buses till the competition goes out of business, then cutting services and hiking prices.

The Monopolies and Mergers Commission said Stagecoach's strategy was "predatory, deplorable and against the public interest".

Stagecoach also gave a £100,000 a year 'part time directorship' to Stephen Dorrell. Dorrell was the architect of railway privatisation, and coincidentally Stagecoach were given the South West trains franchise despite being utterly shit.

South West Trains proved their abilities when they cut back on costs by sacking loads of train drivers, then had to cancel services because - guess what - there weren't enough drivers.
