Fantastic comp. As you note, surprising that it was on a major (Virgin), though there was a 2-3 year period when they released a series of brilliant records - the two Macro Dub Infection comps in particular - due, I think, to Kevin Martin (God, Techno Animal, The Bug) being involved in their A&R (though possibly I've just made that up)
