The last ten years of poshstock oriented folk pop-rock for young glampers has been a fairly miserable listening experience for the most part but this is an excellent steer from Mooncat. A folkier stompier slightly trad-ier and much less vocally polite Landshapes armed with mandolins rather than electric ukes and a rhythm section more appropriate to C81 and The Cramps or Crime and the City Solution than the Folk Show. One for my go-see-when-next-in-town-list.

I'm amazed how early HH folks are up on a Sunday Morning. I had an ultrasound scan at this morning at 9am for a frozen shoulder. Clearly, the days of debauched hedonism are long behind us all. Anyway...

Been on holiday, so not much…

Russian Circles – Guidance. Militant post-rock, like Mogwai/ GYBE, but with added crunch, very good: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eWoJs4QkvwE

VA – I’m A Freak Baby. Been banging on to all and sundry about this excellent 3 CD comp of UK heavy psych/proto-metal from the late 60s/early 70s, but it really is very good – even The Guardian agrees with me ;-) https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jul/21/im-a-freak-baby-a-journey-through-the-british-heavy-psych-and-hard-rock-underground-scene-1968-1972-review-grey-grim-and-glorious Obsessives of this period will know a lot of this stuff, but there’s enough new, and more importantly, good stuff here to justify investigation. A few highlights:
Iron Claw: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eSRZz13YiqI (allegedly threatened with legal action by Sabbath ;-))

Mercury Rev - All Is Dream
Atomic Rooster - In Hearing Of

The Loved Drones - Good Luck Universe!
Cheers to Moon Cat for putting me on to this. Nice krauty vibes - I need to listen more.

Vinyl:

Psychic Lemon - S/T
Really good, much better than I expected. Nice looking lemon coloured vinyl too :)

Moths and Locusts - Helios Rising
More great psych from Canada. I think I'll listen to this a lot.

The Band Whose Name Is a Symbol - box set
Ditto, fab Canadian psych, rocking collection of 3 albums.

Sula Bassana - Shipwrecked
Dr Alimantado - Best Dressed Chicken in Town

Oresund Space Collective - Ode to a Black Hole
Massive Floyd-ian soundscapes. Lots of toms. Nice :)

Apart from following/listening to the songs on the SydArthur festy site, this has been my week, mostly...

Picked up the Altogether on Ammo marketplace for 1p. I'd given up on em' after the so so 'Middle Of Nowhere' record, but this is a great album, esp love the Trashmen/Lux? Sample of first track, the amazing Dr Who revamp, and the one with the Blockheads sample.
Tension - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf6LnlfCFhA
Doctor? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-H_o6ncUz3g

Stranglers - Live X Cert
In do love the Stranglers, but never got why this was supposed to be such a good live album, doesn't contain half the great Stranglers tracks you know and love, and it has the excruciating 'I Feel Like A Wog' (what were they thinking, I know what they were trying to say, but really!!! like this? - mind you, read Hugh Cornwells Biog a few years ago, was hard going I can tell ya. If you though Bill Wyman was dull, think again, Hugh REALLY takes the biscuit in the boring stakes).

FSOL - Lifeforms/ Accelerator/ ISDN
Is there anyone better at 'beaty' ambience than FSOl? They pretty much had it nailed from Papua New Guinea onwards, and Lifeforms the album is 90 odd mins of immersive chillage. Hell, even the single version clocks in at 32 odd mins, epic. Maaan, I bet a 5.1 mix of this would blow your head off. Lifeforms full - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bcsdkk_ON1c

Young Knives - Voices Of Animals And Men
Do love this record and don't play it nearly enough. Some great lyrics/ melodies and humour on this, and the vids are entertaining too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkeAOwBKNL4&list=PLMAMCQPLZoRRym-jJsetVYKve9gFlAEKp

Gainsborg - L'Homme Attente De Chou
Serge' prog exodus. No idea what he's singing, don't speak the lingo, but love it non the less. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DEstQqgglk&list=PLhrglt2nmIGiw7Yx0s6V53i_0Qk5Ts_w3

Simple Minds - New Gold Dream 81,82,83,84
Strutted about in me baggies and Bundeswehr vest, whilst sipping pimms and relaxing on me yacht whilst balancing a couple of models on each knee, and sandwiched between two huge columns of flame, (tastefully back lit) whilst these beautific summery tunes caressed me lug holes, loverly!

Ahhh Iron Knowledge and a whole host of (once) unknown acts funk rock it to the max, as CD contains no tracklisting......source of much guessage back in the day...http://www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/thebookofseth/chains-and-black-exhaust

Stones - Let It Bleed
Possibly my fav Stones album fer relaxing on hot summer knights, esp Midnight Rambler. Our local boozer used to have a killer live version of Midnight Rambler on the jukebox back in the day, never did find out what/where it was from.
