Was wondering if he'd got the original release by the title Datapanik In The Year Zero confused with the boxset for a while there. I think the first thing Ubu put out under the title was the original UK release for the Hearpen material which came out as a 12" e.p. as far as i can recall.
Since that material is to me at least as good as the first lp I'm surprised that he'd say that anyway. I think those first singles and the first 2 lps are all pretty [peak with New Picnic Time coming closely behind that. I don't overly love the overly arty material that came after that where Tom Herman gave way to Mayo Thompson and I do like Mayo elsewhere. Wish somebody'd reissue his Corky's Debt to His Father since I still don't have it.
That original 12" is an absolute stone classic. My introduction to the wonderful world of Pere Ubu back in the day.
