Aye but the problem is the majority of them are "fanatics"
By what standard?

I don't think most Xtians are any more fanatical than anyone else. What do you mean by fanatic? That they are deists? There are plenty of them out there who don't bother anyone.

I don't think religion is the real problem. If a particular branch of religion is a problem, it's due to the underlying tribalism that the religion is hanging on.

Tribalism predates religion by millions of years, and it's all you need to initiate hostilities.

Is it not safe to say that the majority of Christians are anti-homosexuality? Even the ones who aren't actively homophobic (IYSWIM)? And anti-abortion? Given the number of Catholics, I assume that the anti-abortion portion is in the majority.

Well.. no it's not. Not all Catholics are anti-abortion, the anti-abortion/not bothered ratio is directly related to which country the Catholics are in. This is also the case for homophobia. The general views of a society or culture always hold sway, strongly influence, any views of a religion inside that society. Also, come on people, it's the views of the overwhelming number of the society and culture that actually fucking matter. To overfocus on the batshit insaneness of a small theological minority like some of you here are is counter productive.

Well how do you know? Do you really know any Christians who are?

It's more complex than you make it out to be. I'd guess that a very large proportion of Xtians are no longer of the mind that gays need 'saving', at least in this hemisphere.

Beyond that, you will find much disapproval, of course, but not a burning hatred.

And in the corner, you'll find the Fred Phelps types, and what are ya gonna do but deal with those whacked out freaks as they pop up, as they are wont to do.

So it's not that most Xtians hate gays, it's that many are uncomfortable with the idea and a few of them are really bent out of shape about it.

Like I've said, I don't think religion has much to do with anything when it comes to persecution and mob violence and all that stuff. It's tribalism. How people relate to their God is the least fractious element in relations between cultures. People are still carrying around multimillion-year-old animal group programming... be wary of outsiders, be suspicious of strangers, drive off intruders, protect your own, etc. is the core reason why there's so much trouble in the world. It's about power on earth, like Stray says.
