I've started this in a new thread so as not to upset anyone by being "off topic" (see Humans v Neanderthals thread).

By the way, I see this as legitimately in TMA's remit, the book referred to starts in the Paleolithc and in any case Scotland was effectively prehistoric (i.e. no written records) in the Pictish period too.

If anyone would like to carry on the discussion about Scots/Picts/Celts etc. please feel free to do so here. I for one am interested.

TSC ,I haven't read the book .I think there may have been a tv prog based on it up here . The same author did a later book with James Wilson ("The Scots a genetic journey " (2009 ) )who is a geneticist and that was quite good but riddled with archaeo errors , the genetics were a big advance on Oppenheimer .

Cheers George, shall have to check that out, the genetics stuff is probably more interesting than the archaeology in some ways (especially if that's covered better elsewhere).
