Lack of stone circles north of Inverness?

hi there,

I would disagree that there is a lack of stone circles north of Inverness, as someone who lives in Caithness there is an abundance of stone circles in this area. There are not on general maps though and local knowledge does need to kick in, thankfully my partner is a local so can point me in the direction of many things that are not on any maps generally.

As usual Orkney is well signposted something that locals in Caithness are forever complaining about, there are vast amounts of information that are hidden in plain view in caithness and the surrounding area.

Guess the point here is there are so few on TMA - not many at all that non-locals know about. I well recall seeking out Guidebest several years back and thinking... surely there must be others, but neither the maps nor even the likes of Burl shed any light.

Locals of Caithness! Those who share the vision of The Drude need you to show us what treasures your wonderful land possesses!

They tend to form clusters.

There are clusters around the upper stretches of the River Shin, a cluster of rows and one circle near Kinbrace, the Borgie one and the "Thurso Dozen". There are a few just to the North and West of Inverness and some individual circles like Linsidemore and Aberscross. There simply aint a lot at all. As I said earlier on this thread I think it is pretty much to do with the kind of landscape...
The vast area which I described in my last post on this thread (to which you can also pretty much add Arnamurchan, Knoydart and Wester Ross) has no circles at all. Well none that anyone has discovered yet.
