PS - if you DO get a moment spare, Kilmory Oib is worth a visit:

Thanks. I'm partial to a good cross or cross slab (hence why I may head for Iona). If I don't head for Aberdeen it's possible that I'll stick around Kilmartin and visit the early Christian stuff as well. Going to Aberdeen does allow me to see the 2 Scottish round towers on the way, though ...http://www.ancient-scotland.co.uk/site.php?a=99

Slightly off-topic, I guess, cos there you'll find a medieval(?) village, engraved cross slab and holy well. Only a short drive from Kilmartin itself.

I did play with an extension to the trip and head for Lewis, but that can wait until the spring. Next year I am determined to take all my holidays (this is my first break this year!) and so I'll be popping over to Scotland a few times. With this in mind, staying in and around Kilmartin for 5 days might be a better idea.
