Blimey, Harv! You gone done it! Well done you!

I'm so pleased for ya, even though I was one of the ones advising against it (I'm due to go to Orkney in September and all research told me to take me friggin time and have plenty of stops!)

Can't wait to see yer pics and read yer weblog/fieldnotes - I'm tempted now to try for Callanish as well! How long was the drive from there to Scrabster?

I got 2 weeks to get from Southampton to Orkney, with several stops on the way up and back - sort of all planned out now but am quite flexible...

I cannae wait!

Boarded the 7am ferry at Lewis, got off the ferry at Ullapool about tenish. . arrived in Scrabster about 2.30. I thought it would take longer. . ended up hanging 'round Thurso for a few hours (which is a bit of a dump). Ullapool in a nice place though.. stopped at the Ferryboat Inn, cheap and right by the ferry. Had a nice time in Ullapool.
Lewis is sparse mate. . there's NOTHING there once out of Stornoway. I found one shop in Calanais, it was open 10-2!!! just a converted garage. The woman said it's the only shop for miles!!

By the way, the trip cost me £300 in ferry fares alone!
