Help! - Does anybody out there know how to get to The Twelve Apostles, after many hours rambling on the moor the other weekend I am still no nearer (although what a wild and beautiful moor it is). I was told the circle was a mile from the Cow and Calf pub?

Any help with directions would be much appreciated!

Hi Sky
If you've not been to 12 Apostles before, you're perhaps better starting off at Dick Hudson's on the south side of the moor, at High Eldwick. On t'other side of the road from the pub is the path onto the moor. Just walk up here and stick to the single fottpath for 30 minutes (no turn-offs anywhere) and you'll get to it. But if you want to start from the Ilkley side, you're probably best going from White Wells. Go up past the building, up the steps of the cliffs, and once you're at the top (where paths go left, right and straight on) take the footpath which goes straight into the moors. Just follow it and you'll get there.
The Dick Hudson's pub starting point is probably better though. Slightly less tourists that way!
Good luck - Paulus

Hi Sky,

I've always started from the Cow n' Calf on my visits to the Twelve Apostles. Brief directions...

From Car Park head up the side of the C+C, in front of you is a high ridge (you can see the Pancake Stone to your left). Clamber up there and you will find the Haystack and Planets cup n' ring marked rocks. Follow the path to your right, which takes you to the reconstructed enclosure at Backstone Beck (look out for more C+R rocks on the way). Follow the path past the enclosure and turn right at the top of the ridge. Keep on this path until you reach the main x-moor path, part of which is boarded over. Keep on ahead to the ridge in front of you, at the top of which you will find the Lanshaw Lad boundary stone. Take the path that bears left and after about 100 yards, you'll find yourself right on top of the Twelve Apostles.

The lazy bugger's way is to drive up the Ilkley Road and park up at Whetstone Gate by the radio transmitters and take the path past the Thimble Stones, over the moor top at Nixon's Station and straight forward to the Twelve Apostles.

Happy Huntin'!

Hi Sky, if you're going in the near future, you're probably best going the C&C route, cos some loon attacked a woman up Ilkley Moor (around panorama res.) on Monday @ 4pm. It'll be safer sticking to the busier paths until they catch the idiot.

I also recomend buying the wharfedale wayfarer map

We found the circle first time from C&C using the map

Wonderful site

Good luck
