Yes Kammer, I seem to remember reading somewhere that the word 'Swastika' comes from Sanskrit and means something like 'purveyor of good fortune' Afraid I haven't got the actual quote though.

That old hack Dennis Wheatley incorporated its alliance with the Powers of Light into one of his black magic novels, can't remember which one as I haven't read him for about 30 + years.

Aye, the word "swastika" is thought to be that, but we find the symbol itself going much further back. There are several early examples from the Ukraine, carved on ivory, dating from 18000-15000 BC. Multiple swastikas have been found on Mammoth tusks in Russia, c.7000 BC - there's plenty of truly early material on this 'ere swirlygig; and though we get the usual "good luck" or "sun" symbolism attached, it's primarily the life-force or creativity it represents.
