Beinn an Tuirc

close

Hello Rhiannon , please excuse the pedantry but Beinn an Tuirc ,at 454m is a long way from being the highest hill in Argyll , it might just be the highest in the Kintyre area though .

oh alright then!
I was only copying it. Of course I actually have no idea. Though I would love to go and see it for myself.

Thanks v much. I'm always more than happy to corrected by people who know what they're talking about.

Rhiannon, et al,
Being a mountaineer, I can confirm that the highest mountain in Argyll is Bidean Nam Bian at 3,773 feet (1150 metres) high. For the Gaelic enthusiasts, I think it is pronounced "Beetyan Nam Beeoan". It stands to the west, when driving down Glencoe from the Rannoch Moor.

Travel that route in darkness, on a February evening, with snow showers blasting across the moor, and the only things directing the car being the snow poles. Near the top of the pass, look to your left, and, if lucky, the towering peak of Buchaille Etive Mor will show, glittering in crisp snow, between clouds, under a full moon. A haunting scene.

Regards,
TE.
