I'm assuming the stones at Coldrum are mostly/all sarcen?
'Cos this:http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/6070 reminds me of the hours of endless fun I've had staring at the natural patterning caused by fossilised mangrove roots in Wiltshire stones, then concocting half-baked thories about how the signifiance of natural holes in stone are related to the meaning of cup-marks.

Have vast amounts of fun Mr S :)

I've looked before but not really for anything tangible - some of the stones at Addington are riddled with holes, and they are obviously natural, but as you say, it's nice to play mind games. And yep, all sarsen, all matching [as far as I know, an odd one would be so nice !]. I am going to get there on Saturday early in the PM, check out two sets of supposed-field-cleared stones, walk the natural and old path to Addington, then get a lift back at about 8 o'clock.

Lazy as my daughter, that's me!
