Great shot of the moonrise - http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/53240

I'd be great to see what it does around the next couple of days - will it skim the hilltop? Wouldn't that be something.

I have a theory about the standing stones around Knocklayd could actually be the last remnants of the biggest stone circle anywhere. Diameter? .... 8km !!! There are still so many of them on the west side.

They include the stones at Corvally, Breen and those in the churchyard at Ballynagloch.

Also, I just saw your picture from Ballyvennaght. It looks like a sweathouse or a lime kiln to me.

I must come up your way again soon.

Blimey, you guys have got it good over there.

Hi FourWinds, I thought that I felt my ears burning...

Thanks for the compliments on the photos, it was one of those chance moments I usually miss.
In fact it has spurred me into saving for a more capable camera & lens!
I still have a few more of these stones to find (and the time to find to go looking)
It is intriguing that so many stones remain on the Glentaisie (western) side of Knocklayd, and on the eastern side, mainly portal tombs remain. I would assume that many times more stones have been removed than remain in place.

I must try to visit the site again over the weekend to check out the moon rising again. it's quite a sight.

Oh and thanks for looking at my mystery pic from ballyvennaght. I sat there to catch my breath after tramping back from the portal tombs and thought it looked interesting.

Beautiful set of photos there, love the long shot of the moon and the sunset one posted today. Great stuff!
