Solstice Sunrise

close

This morning was a bit of an anticlimax really. Too cloudy, but we had a bit of a pink glow for a short time. It was great to see Cian & Steward of Gondor there in the throngs that turned out.

This year was the first year I've bothered going up there. After being at Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice the Newgrange experience is very mundane. Everyone is made to stand out on the road until just before sunrise so there's no partying or anything.

As we would all expect CianMacLiam took some lovely photos of some of the carvings.

There was about 10 people at Stanton Drew. Couple of druids, a few locals and a couple of others wandering about. I did discover its a bad place for the winter sunrise though, there is a big ridge to the South East which meant the sun didn't hit the ground there till 8.40 and I was late for work...

Nice clear skies though :)

I suppose you can only buy bog zoom lenses in Ireland?

Up here in the grim north east there was no sun but a lovely dawn.
