Very much enjoyed your posts on the sites in the mid-Wales uplands. So magical and little visited.

We haven't been back for a while but I wondered if you ever checked out these and had any thoughts on their status?

I think we need to get Postman to deliver on these since Pumlumon's taken up most of my Mid Walian time for the past few years.... someone had to do it, Iguess. What a drag. However I need to get back to the Doethie. Magically desolate place. There is certainly a lot of prehistoric form in the area, most notably for me, perhaps, in respect of whatever was going on upon Bryn y Gorlan.

As regards the Poppy Stone - haven't had the pleasure as yet - Coflein cite it as a 'Standing Stone' of unknown period at Pen y Rhiw Iar (unless I'm looking at the wrong stone). Let's just say it looks the part and certainly would not be out of place. Do we need to excavate the footings of every hillside monolith to prove it isn't a scratching post? It certainly doesn't look 'natural', an erratic etc.

The stone row also looks the part... trouble is rows with (relatively) large stones are at a premium in Wales. However this does lie in the area between the Saith Maen and Rhos-y-Gelynnen, so there is at least some precedent.

Postie?

We did report the poppy stone to Coflein but I think the stone they refer to at Pen y Rhiw Iar is this beast (now strangely corralled):

It is right on a boundary between parishes I seem to remember

Here is another whopper standing quietly in the trees by the possible stone row:

Felt like they were all on a route from the tomb at Gelli:

to the complex at Cefn Gwernffrwd

It is truly is a wonderful locale - very much looking forward to trekking up to see Bryn y Gorlan.
