There's no real black magic when it comes to night photography, I'll add a brief bit about it in a different thread shortly. All the night photographs are completely set up, its not like daytime when you have to sit and wait, with low light photography you can plan everything pretty much in advance and have a good idea what your going to get, its almost a mathematical equation once you've decided on the angle and zoom setting. You do have to be comfortable setting a manual exposure on your camera though as camera meters dont usually do a great job of this kind of thing.
